Fair Trade Handmade Black Wooden Decorative Storage Jars
These decorative wood storage jars feature unique lids reminiscent of the long pointed horns of African wildlife. Crafted from sustainably sourced mpingo wood by fair trade artisans living in Mozambique's vast miombo woodlands, these refined storage jars are as useful as they are beautiful.
Mpingo wood is the Kiswahili word for the dark hardwood also known as African blackwood, Mozambican ebony, grenadilla and zebrawood. This wood is used to create some of the world's finest woodwind instruments. It grows abundantly in Mozambique's miombo woodlands and coastal forests.
This item is fairly made in Africa. It has made its way here today thanks to the hard work of Leslie Mittelberg building a network of artisans across Africa. Each artisan is able to work from the comfort of their own home and community. The fair payment they receive will not be reduced by traveling expenses, childcare costs or haggled prices. The artisans use their earnings to put food on the table and pay educational expenses for their children.
