Small Woven Gourd Basket

This great little basket is useful in every room of the home. Hand woven by rural Wolof women in Senegal, West Africa, each basket is comprised of bunches of millet grass bound with plastic strips typically used to create their rugs and prayer mats.

It offers a beautifully sculptured exterior while hiding away a number of loose objects. Insert a glass liner and display a bouquet of flowers!

This item is fairly made in Africa. It has made its way here today thanks to the hard work of Leslie Mittelberg building a network of artisans across Africa. Each artisan is able to work from the comfort of their own home and community. The fair payment they receive will not be reduced by traveling expenses, childcare costs or haggled prices. The artisans use their earnings to put food on the table and pay educational expenses for their children.
