One-of-a-kind Vintage Suzani Textile - SZ0570
100% hand-stitched & hand-embroidered suzani textile. It can be used as a throw, coverlet, picnic blanket, sofa cover, decoration, wall hanging, or kitchen accessory... the list goes on and on!
This quilt is approximately 40-50 years old. Kantha quilts consist of several layers of recycled cotton or saris. The vintage sari material is then stitched together with colorful thread to create these beautiful, softly layered cotton throws. The “kantha” stitch is applied row after row and gives the fabric its unique wrinkled effect. This kind of embroidery is most popular with rural women of India who spend hour upon hour creating these wonderful, one-of-a-kind pieces. The top layer of the quilt may start peeling off (due to wear), letting the layer below shine through.
Each throw is one-of-a-kind so when it's gone, it's gone!
PLEASE NOTE: Like any hand-stitched embroidery work, the back side of these textiles will show loose threads. You can expect the textile to need some trimming if you like a clean look. We recommend trimming loose threads short with scissors as needed.
WASHING CARE: The quilts machine wash very well. We recommend gentle washing separate in cold water and dry on low.
